Hybrid Intelligence Gains Recognition in Finnish Media
We are excited to see The Hybrid Intelligence Centre featured in a significant article by Finnish national media outlet Yle. The article highlights ongoing research at the University of Oulu, where AI is being developed to collaborate with humans across disciplines such as psychology, education, and healthcare. This marks an important step in introducing the concept of Hybrid Intelligence to the Finnish audience, as awareness of this human-centered approach has been relatively limited so far.
The article underscores a shared vision between The Hybrid Intelligence Centre in the Netherlands and Finnish researchers on hybrid intelligence, particularly in advancing AI systems that work with humans rather than replacing them. Professor Sanna Järvelä (University of Oulu) and Associate Professor Myrthe Tielman (Delft University of Technology) both emphasize that the goal of Hybrid Intelligence is to develop AI systems that align with human values, needs, and behaviour.
Järvelä’s research focuses on how AI can assist in identifying challenges in human interaction, such as teamwork or skill development, using virtual and augmented reality environments. Meanwhile, Tielman’s group in the Netherlands explores how trust between humans and AI can be improved, ensuring systems are transparent and understandable, so users can assess AI’s capabilities and limitations effectively.
This collaboration between Finland and the Netherlands reflects the growing recognition of the importance of building AI systems that are not only functional but trustworthy, supportive, and human-friendly.
