Horizon Europe Project Awarded to Davide Grossi

Davide Grossi has successfully secured a major Horizon Europe project as coordinator, focusing on a Hybrid Intelligence-related theme. The new €3.3M project, titled PERYCLES “Participatory dEmocRacY that sCaLES“, will begin in January 2025, coordinated by the University of Groningen (Davide Grossi, Bernoulli Institute for Mathematics, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Agricola School for Sustainable Development).

Civil society and public authorities increasingly turn to digital tools to increase citizens’ participation in democratic processes and the legitimacy of policy decisions. Yet democratic technology is currently developed and deployed without evidence-based methods for designing and validating it. PERYCLES tackles the challenge of developing such methods. It will analyze and test open-source software solutions for democratic deliberation that can be deployed at multiple levels of governance while confidently safeguarding the democratic quality of the processes they support.

PERYCLES builds on a tightly-knit international and interdisciplinary consortium of six academic partners and three societal partners.
